If the pieces do not bond well, or when gluing grain sides together, roughen the surface with a dresser (rasp) or similar tool.
How to glue and apply white adhesives (such as Saibinol)
Because it dries quickly and will no longer bond once dry, apply two or three thin coats so that the glue does not spill past the bonding surface, then press the pieces together with their edges aligned.
