Traditional Japanese Beauty, Worn at Your Feet
Founded in Katsushika, Tokyo in 1957, Shian Shoes Co., Ltd. has devoted itself to making shoes that embrace the feet of the modern woman. Drawing on techniques honed over some 70 years, the company pursues beautiful silhouettes and an exceptional fit. "SHIAN UKIYOE" was born from that expertise. Motifs inspired by and adapted from the ukiyo-e of Katsushika Hokusai and Utagawa Kuniyoshi are vividly rendered on fine Japanese leather. As "art you can wear," where Japanese aesthetics and craftsmanship resonate together, the brand brings its MADE IN JAPAN shoes to the world.

The Beauty of Ukiyo-e, Loved Around the World, Reborn as Art for Your Feet
Commitment 1
The motifs are drawn from ukiyo-e prints loved around the world: the dynamic wave Katsushika Hokusai painted in "Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji: The Great Wave off Kanagawa," and an atmospheric design of swimming goldfish accompanied by cherry blossoms, inspired by the work of Utagawa Kuniyoshi. These are rendered on fine Japanese leather. Rather than simply applying the image, the swell of the wave and the flow of the goldfish are arranged to follow the form of the shoe, composed so that each pair reads as a beautiful whole.

Made Entirely In-House, for a Comfort That Makes You Want to Keep Walking
Commitment 2
Every step, from design to manufacture, is carried out at the company's own factory in Katsushika, Tokyo. Because each pair is made by hand by experienced artisans, the shoes achieve supple flexibility and a fit that makes no compromises down to the finest detail. Drawing on a library of more than 800 lasts developed over some 70 years of shoemaking, they are finished to wrap the foot gently. They resist fatigue even on long walks, keeping you comfortable all day long.

A Special Pair to Grace the Scenery of Your Travels in Japan
Commitment 3
Choosing a pair to suit your destination is one of the pleasures of travel. The pair clad in Hokusai's wave is for seaside towns with a pleasant salt breeze, or for island-hopping. The pair with cherry blossoms and goldfish dancing on white is for touring seasonal beauty spots coloured by flowers and trees. The pair with cherry blossoms and goldfish on black is for strolling through a refined old capital. Ukiyo-e has stirred the wanderlust of travellers since the Edo period, and it still looks beautiful against the scenery of a journey today. Even packing for a trip, imagining which pair to wear through which town, becomes a time of heightened anticipation.
