Sanyo Co., Ltd. has its head office and factory in Himeji, Hyogo Prefecture. Since its founding in 1911, this long-established tannery has devoted itself to leather making in Himeji, a region with more than a thousand years of tanning history. In 2022, wishing to deliver the appeal of leather with its own hands, it launched the leather goods brand "TAANNERR". The beautiful expression, texture and presence of leather itself, which only a tannery that knows leather through and through can bring out. The brand name layers the letters of "TANNER", expressing something that continues across time while carrying on Sanyo's brand message, "WE MAKE TIMELESS BEAUTY." Beauty that never fades, in everyday life. TAANNERR delivers leather goods that grow dearer the longer they are used.

We keep forms as simple as possible so that the texture and character of the leather, and the individuality living in each and every hide, can be felt just as they are. Each time you pick a piece up, the expression and feel of the leather catch your heart. That beauty inherent in the material itself is what we treasure. Not dressing things up with decoration, but quietly bringing out the appeal of the leather. Not chasing trends, but growing dearer as the years go by. That is the kind of making we aspire to.
Leather making that engages with the individuality of every hide

Raw hides show a different expression with every piece, depending on how the cattle were raised and what they were fed. Our craftsmen read that individuality with a trained eye and build up more than twenty processes, from tanning through dyeing to finishing. Keeping a close watch on the climate and the condition of the material, and responding to even the slightest change on the day, they carefully adjust each and every step. Vegetable tanning, chrome tanning and white tanning: each technique is used where it fits best, drawing out the potential of the leather. Our own leather, its quality verified through three stages of inspection, after tanning, as an intermediate material and as a finished product, is then carefully made up one piece at a time by skilled Japanese craftsmen.
