Headquartered in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, Madras Co., Ltd. has been making shoes for more than 100 years since its founding in 1921. “madras” is a brand born in 1946 in Bassano, on the outskirts of Venice, Italy, and brought to Japan in 1965. That same year, the company formed a technical partnership with an Italian shoemaker and has since fused authentic Italian craftsmanship with its own expert skills. Under the concept “Contemporary Classic,” madras offers sharp, refined shoes in which Italian tradition and Japanese technique live on.

In pursuit of the refined beauty of Italian style, our designers travel to Italy themselves to carefully select fine materials. From the leathers of long-established tanneries that carry on authentic traditions to delicate colors that are difficult to achieve in Japan, each material is chosen to suit the design of every pair. We also develop original materials together with skilled tanneries in Japan. Carefully finished by the hands of artisans, with a deep luster and color schemes that show just the right amount of character, our shoes add a sure sense of distinction to your feet.

The lasts that form the foundation of comfort are designed based on fitting data accumulated over many years, creating a comfortable fit that stays the same even as designs change. For construction, we adopt the method best suited to each pair, including the traditional Italian McKay construction. Through repeated testing, such as pairing the enveloping Bologna construction with our original double cushioning, we craft shoes that soften the impact of walking and keep fatigue at bay.

A Patented Insole That Supports You from the Soles of Your Feet

To reduce the strain on your feet caused by concentrated body weight, the “Recovery meta insole” uses Crystal Gel, a material also used for medical purposes. It distributes pressure across the entire sole of the foot and firmly absorbs the load of walking. The arch section, made with a different firmness, creates a pleasant shiatsu-like sensation and converts the force of each landing into forward momentum. Its patented original structure and materials deliver superior comfort.
