A new take on leather starts with subtraction.
Ueda Seisakushitsu Co., Ltd., with its atelier in Komagane, Nagano Prefecture, runs .URUKUST, a design studio and workshop led by designer Yasue Tsuchihira. Tsuchihira, who began leathercraft at age 13, studied design, and gained experience as a bag designer, founded the brand in 2011. Read backwards, the brand name spells "TSUKURU." (Japanese for "to make"). It is a leather goods brand that values the essence of craftsmanship, created by a designer who is also an artisan. The brand produces wallets, card cases, key cases, bags, and other leather goods that combine functionality, simplicity, and style.
Lean design that balances functionality and style
Commitment 1
Rather than deciding a form through sketches alone, we work with our hands, building prototype after prototype, dozens of times over. What emerges is design that combines functionality, simplicity, and style. By reducing unnecessary parts and distilling each piece into a simple structure, we pursue new forms never seen before. It is precisely because nothing is wasted in the structure that these pieces settle naturally into the hand as everyday tools.
Fine leather whose luster deepens with use

We use full-grain leather tanned to our own specifications. While carefully bringing out the rich character inherent in the material, it combines durability with a refined texture. With use, it gains luster and depth, maturing into a fine, rich patina. The way it slowly changes over time, as only natural leather can, is another part of its charm.
Leather forms honed in the atelier, from design to prototype
Commitment 3
From design and engineering to prototyping, everything is done in our own atelier. After refining prototypes in the atelier and finalizing the specifications, some products are also produced in factories so that they can reach more people. By continuing to be personally involved in design and prototyping, the designer instills the brand's identity—functionality, simplicity, and style—into each and every product.
