Headquartered in Taito, Tokyo, Wazabi Co., Ltd. has been involved in the planning and manufacturing of small leather goods and leather shoes since its founding in 2009. The growing number of visitors from overseas coming to Asakusa led the company to think about distinctly Japanese craftsmanship. Along the way, it met the Tokyo Yuzen artisan group “Somemoyo,” and SUUTA SUUTA was born out of a desire to expand the possibilities of traditional crafts. Using single-layer lambskin adorned with Yuzen designs in the traditional shape of tabi, we craft footwear that feels almost like going barefoot. An Unbroken Yuzen Scene from the Instep to the Sides
Commitment 1
Treating the area from the instep to the sides of the foot as a single canvas, we arrange the Yuzen designs without interruption. Rather than simply printing a pattern, we carefully matched the patterns so that a single scene emerges when the left and right parts come together. By transferring designs created by Tokyo Yuzen artisans directly onto the leather, each pair carries the delicate expression unique to handwork. The scene created by the connected patterns adds a subtle touch of color to your feet.
The Distinctive Shape of Tabi, Reimagined as Comfortable Leather Shoes That Follow Your Feet

In translating the distinctive shape of tabi into leather shoes, we made prototype after prototype, exploring the right depth at the base of the big toe from the standpoint of both an authentic tabi look and comfortable wear. The heel strap is placed on the outer side of the instep so that the Yuzen pattern stands out beautifully, and an intentional seam on the outer side creates a three-dimensional shape that follows the movement of your foot, along with a light, easy stride. For the sole, we chose a material that resists slipping on the ground without compromising the original look of tabi, creating a three-dimensional pair that follows the contours of your feet.
Unlined Single-Layer Construction: Comfortable, Rub-Free Wear Even Barefoot
Commitment 3
The upper is made of high-quality lambskin in an unlined, single-layer construction. Because there is no lining, a special treatment is applied so that the leather does not rub or press against your skin even when worn barefoot. Thanks to this treatment, the shoes keep the soft feel unique to single-layer leather while letting you walk with confidence even barefoot.
