Fabrik Co., Ltd., which has an atelier and gallery shop in Kamimeguro, Meguro-ku, Tokyo, has focused on product design and OEM manufacturing since its founding in 2012. A creative studio launched by a craftsman and a product designer, it started its original brand FABRIK® in 2014. The brand icon, shaped like a triangular roof with a chimney, is a symbol of simple, clear-cut making. Centered on small leather goods and bags, the brand creates products that each come with their own function and concept.
Simple, clear-cut design that starts from "the way things should be"
Commitment 1
Free of preconceptions and established notions, we begin designing by asking anew what each tool should fundamentally be. Taking cues from the material, the function, the user, and even the background of its making, we pursue forms that make sense. Beyond small leather goods such as wallets and bags, we design tools for everyday life, from kitchen to home goods, with the same perspective. In 2019, a buckle we developed in-house won a silver award at an international design competition.
Pattern design and craftsmanship that bring out the suppleness and strength of leather
Commitment 2
We design our patterns with the characteristics of the material and how it will be used in mind, so that the suppleness and strength of the leather can be put to full use. Ideas born in our Kamimeguro atelier are refined together with Japanese makers and given shape one by one with skilled craftsmanship. Approaching each piece from both the design and manufacturing sides, we tailor leather goods suited to their materials and purposes. When drafting a pattern, we picture the situations in which it will be used and even the movements of the person holding it, revisiting the shape of every detail again and again.
Leather that grows into an expression all your own the more you use it
Commitment 3
We use fine natural leather produced by Japanese tanneries. Not only can you choose your favorite from a wide range of colors, but the character of the leather also changes little by little depending on how and where it is used. The charm unique to natural leather is that the same hide develops a different expression with each owner. As time passes, you can enjoy an aging that is yours alone. The one-of-a-kind character that emerges this way deepens the bond between the user and the leather piece.
