Craftsmanship of essential value, to be loved for a lifetime

Morpho Co., Ltd., headquartered in Koto, Tokyo, has been combining materials carefully selected from around the world with Japan's outstanding craftsmanship since its founding in 1995. The brand name comes from the Morpho cypris butterfly, which lives in tropical rainforests and is said to shine with a singularly solitary brilliance in the natural world. Each product goes through some 100 to 250 processes; the company maintains a style of production in which more than 70% of the work is done by hand, and carefully carries on traditional techniques such as kikuyose corner pleating and shinobi-nui hidden stitching. Guided by the philosophy of “craftsmanship of essential value, to be loved for a lifetime,” CYPRIS pursues products that will keep shining forever.

Beauty That Endures Beyond Passing Trends

Commitment 1

Pursuing basic designs and functional beauty that stand apart from passing trends, we craft leather goods that can be used for many years. We bring techniques cultivated through Japanese craftsmanship to carefully selected materials. The words “MADE IN JAPAN” on our products express our confidence and pride in valuing Japanese skill, sensibility, and attention to detail.

A Clean, Beautiful Finish, Down to the Hidden Seams

Commitment 2

Countless processes, from cutting and skiving to sewing and finishing, go into completing a single product. Inheriting the art of fukuromono (pouches and purses) making handed down since the Edo period, we carefully preserve traditional techniques such as kikuyose, which neatly finishes the corners, and shinobi-nui, which keeps the stitches from showing on the outside, while continuing a style of production in which more than 70% of the work is done by hand. By passing skills from experienced artisans to the next generation and taking extra care even in the processes no one sees, we pursue a beautiful finish down to the smallest detail.

Indigo-Dyed Calfskin, Bringing Together the Best of Japan

Commitment 3

Made-in-Japan indigo-dyed calfskin, dyed at Bushu Nakajima Konya, a long-established indigo dye house founded in the 8th year of the Tenpo era (1837). Fine-grained baby calfskin raised on the land of Hokkaido is carefully dyed one hide at a time, layer upon layer, in indigo vats by the hands of certified traditional craftsman Daigo Niijima. By uniting the skills of indigo dyers handed down since the Edo period with those of CYPRIS's small-leather-goods artisans, we create deep, beautiful leather goods clad in “Japan Blue,” a traditional Japanese color.
